Mezuzah Case (mezuzot) Tradition Never Looked More Stylish   One of the most known Jewish icons is the Mezuzah case: a small scroll which is laid in a rectangular box that is placed at the top corner of the doorway. If you have been to a Jewish house you probably saw some of the house tenants kiss the Mezuzah case very naturally as they go out or in a room.   The reason for this expression of deep respect is the written words inside it and the divine law that is attributed to the Mezuzah: the scroll contains the holy prayer Shema Yisrael and is believed to protect the residents of the house. This ancient custom, which is mentioned in the Bible, has survived the vast changes that the Jewish community experienced in the last century and so even non-observant Jewish people pay their respect to it and make sure their house is not Mezuzah-free. If you wish to follow the Halacha (the religious laws) you should hang a mezuzah on all your doors, except for the toilet and bathroom.   The Mezuzahs sacred scroll never comes alone and is always accompanied by a Mezuzah case, which is what you see when you look at the Mezuzah (the scroll always remains out of sight, unless you invite a specialist from time to time in order to make sure the writing in the Mezuzah is flawless). Throughout the years Mezuzah cases have become some of the most developed and creative artistic items in the Judaica field. People today look for cases that are not a mere container to the sacred parchment, because they acknowledge the opportunity to make it something meaningful and beautiful that holds both a spiritual and an esthetic value.
